Google is not only the #1 search engine, they provide a lot of tools for web developers and the key people that market in a company that markets their web site. Put it high on your priority list to get a "gmail" account so that you can access all of these tools from the beginning. Listed below is a brief explaination of some of the top tools to use and links to where on Google you can sign up for these tools.


Google Analytics: (Web Traffic Reporting)

In order to get access to this data you must first sign up and list the URL of the web site you want to track. Google will provide you with a script that you will place  into the body section of the MasterPage of your web site (toward the bottom of the page). This tracking code is what allows Google to gather the information they need to present it to you in forms. Use this free tool to track the number of visitors to your sites, how they found your website, what pages were viewed and for how long. Google Webmaster Tools: (Monitor & Maintain SEO)

Let Google check your site for errors and send you a report when you have a broken link or some other feature you need to fix. In order to get access to this data you must provide proof that you are the webmaster of the website and/or that you have the authority to publish to the root directory of your website.  Log into Google Webmaster and request a meta tag for your website. Add this meta tag in the head section of your MasterPage and republish your website. Sign back into Google Webmaster Tools and click a button to verify your site. Once you have been verified you can then view information about how Google views your sites. You will be provided a list of any broken links on your website as well as a few other items you may need to attend to.  It is also recommended that you upload a sitemap.xml file that aids Google in indexing your site. You will also find instructions on how to create a robots.txt file for your web site.

 This is a free tool and all you need is a gmail account. You can monitor different reports and even create a Google Gadget that will display the short reports on your iGoogle page.


Google's AD SENSE: (Google Ads on your web site)

Google Ad Sense is a way for businesses to add content relevant Google Ads to their site. You may want to do this to provide your audience with additional resources, generate additional web content, aide in the design of your site and/or to generate income from Google. The advertizers pay Google to place the ads in specific markets. Then when you sign up for Google Ads, Google will match you up with an advertiser to place relevant links on your site. It's a win-win situation.
